Shimon Haber’s review of Sony Xperia Z2

The world famous Sony Xperia Z line had all the prerequisites to write new page in the android history, even with its first model in early 2013. “The Best of Sony “ was the motto behind the product… and Shimon Haber says that they were right! The design and performance were extremely high for the time, and integrated protection from dust and water made all the other phone manufacturers to rethink the concepts of their phones.

So at the end of last year, the Xperia Z1 arrived on the market, and it was the logical successor of the first Xperia Z, who in addition to standard improvements in speed provided more battery life and a much better camera. Unfortunately, with all the great features, Shimon Haber thinks that the smartphone had other “Achilles heels”- namely mediocre sound, weak viewing angles and still not enough battery life. That's why Shimon Haber, who is a fan of the Xperia line couldn’t wait till Sony appeared on the market with a new flagship.
Now, the big question - did Sony managed to overcome those problems in the latest model, the Xperia Z2?

1. The package
The test piece of Xperia Z2 that Shimon Haber has, arrived with standard charger, a USB cable and a Headphones set with a microphone. The charger model is EP880. It is designed for networks with alternating current and voltage from 100 to 240 volts and mains frequency 50 to 60 Hz. Power output is 7.5 W at nominal voltage and current respectively 5 V and 1.5 A. From 0 to 100% the phone is charging for 3 hours and 20 minutes.

2. Design and construction
Sony have retained their characteristic features and it seems like they did not intended to change the “Omni-Balance” design of their flagship line. Fans of the company seem to be happy with this style and did not want to see a radical modification. Their views on the current design are more positive and that is why the Xperia Z line is different from everything else on the market. Shimon Haber also seems to be happy with the design language.

3. Display
The display of the Sony Xperia Z2 is a capacitive multi-touch IPS TRILUMINOS with LED backlight. The screen diagonal is 5.2 inches with a ratio of 16:9. The resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels and pixel pitch - 0.06 x 0.06 mm, which is equivalent to 424 pixels per inch. The resolution is so high, Shimon Haber uploaded a video of it, and thinks that it even manages to beat the “Retina” display, because the screen of Sony Xperia Z2 even has excellent visibility under a wide angles. The measured average maximum brightness is 453 cd/m2 and provides convenient operation when the ambient light is high. The black is 0.41 cd/m2, making a contrast ratio of 1100:1.

4. Sound
Shimon Haber knows that smartphones are small devices, and can hardly expect high fidelity from their built-in speakers in the foreseeable future. However, he noticed quite a few ambitions and hard woks in the two stereo speakers. At the maximum level the speakers deliver 70 dB at 1 meter distance of a 1KHz sound.

5. Battery
The battery of Xperia Z2 has energy capacity of 3200 mAh. That of the Z1 was 3000 mAh and offered especially high durability, while that of Z was even back on this indicator, with its 2330 mAh.
In this matter, Shimon hopes that this capacity will be enough.
- Phone call
Traditionally, Mr. Haber starts with a phone conversation in which the huge screen will not be an obstacle as it is extinguished by the proximity sensor. In total, the battery lasted 1371 minutes (22 hours and 51 minutes).
- Surfing the Internet
Mr. Haber browsed the web on some random webpages. The result is 663 minutes (11 hours and 3 minutes).
- 3D games
Running Epic Citadel benchmark of Epic Games, the Z2 lasted 286 minutes (4 hours and 46 minutes) on a single charge.
- Watching a movie
Testing video playback 720p HD, the Xperia Z2 managed to work for 678 minutes (11 hours and 18 minutes) on a single charge.

6. Software
Sony Xperia Z2 works with pre-installed Android 4.4.2 operating system (KitKat), covered by the company modified interface that looks great and works as quickly and smoothly ( Mr. Haber did not expect otherwise, given 801 Snapdragon chip embedded in the hull phone).
Besides the beautiful vision interface Sony can boast a number of serious pre-installed applications and functionalities. Some applications like WALKMAN, Socialife and OfficeSuite 7 are also preinstalled on the phone.

7. Performance
Xperia Z2 uses MSM8974-AB modification of Snapdragon 800, called by Qualcomm “Snapdragon 801“. The upgraded processor offers 14% faster 400 Krait cores, 28 % faster Adreno 330 graphics and 45 -percent improvement in the estimation of camera sensor. The core clock speed in MSM8974-AB is 2.27 GHz and 550 MHz for the GPU, thus lagging behind the MSM8974-AC modification by 28 MHz at 160 MHz GPU and CPU on the frequency.

8. Camera
The rear camera on the Sony Xperia Z2 is a 20.7 - megapixel BSI sensor 1/2.3” Exmor RS for Mobile, 5248 x 3936 pixels ( 4:3 ) with a relative aperture 1:2.0 and a focal distance of corresponding to 27 mm for 35 mm film. The sensor has image stabilization called “SteadyShot” and the technology that Sony is using is outstanding.

Overall
Shimon Haber websites gave this phone a 9.2/10.

Melatonin for sleep disorders

Many people suffer from insomnia, have trouble sleeping or wake up often, claims Shimon Haber according to the latest studies. Therefore, they reach for drugs, which make them feel sick, but these medicines can also cause addiction. Furthermore, the sleeping and waking regulates melatonin in the human body, so some people take melatonin supplements, but the studies suggest that the results are disappointing. Fortunately, there are certain foods that raise the level of melatonin in the blood and help people with sleeping problems.

The pineal gland is an endocrine gland in the brain that secretes melatonin. Furthrmore, this gland also regulates the circadian cycle i.e. the sequences that regulate the sleeping. A healthy pineal gland can secrete melatonin only when we are relaxed, or when we sleep. Moreover, the gland can secrete melatonin even during meditation and visualization. In addition, the fluorine may cause some troubles for the pineal gland. Because of its biochemical properties, the pineal gland attracts the fluorine from the body. Therefore, if the pineal gland reaches a certain quantity of fluoride it will begin to calcify, and it starts to work poorly or very poorly.  For most of the middle-aged people, especially the ones that are constantly under stress, the production of melatonin gradually weakens. But still, this often results with chronic insomnia, which has the potential to increase the risks of developing various diseases as we age, from chronic fatigue to dementia. A great number of studies have connected the higher level of melatonin with sleeping, but they mostly relate to the production of melatonin inside the body. Click here to find out more.

U.S. has the greatest number of prisoners in the world

Nowadays, U.S. has the greatest number country with the highest rate of prisoners and convicts in the world, claims Shimon Haber according to some recent findings. Although, this information is not surprising, this is a country that imposes its concept of democracy to other countries. So, let ask ourselves: Do we need “pathocracy” – a system of government by psychopaths dressed as a “global democracy”?

BBC News published a special report, which delivers the number of prisoners for each country. The first position holds the United States with 2,193,798 prisoners (737 prisoners of 100,000 individuals). Therefore, it is not surprising that they have overcrowded prisons with a capacity up to 107.6 %. Their prisons hold 21.2% of prisoners, who have been convicted by the U.N. laws. Moreover, the U.S can brag with another sad figure. They have the greatest number of female prisoners – 8.9% of the prison population.

China, the most populated country in the world has a total of 1,548,498 prisoners (118 prisoners of 100,000 individuals) and 4.6% of female prisoners. It is interesting to remark that China had been attacked by the U.S. administration for their alleged deficient of transparency and civil liberties, but if we judge by the number of prisoners, then China holds a much better position than the world’s leading democracy. The second position belongs to Russia, with 874,161 inmates, which means that they have 615 prisoners of 100,000 citizens. In the last few years, their prison capacity has reached up to 79.5%, where 16.9% fell on the international prisoners.

Ukraine comes on the third position with 162,602 inmates, which means 350 prisoners of 100,000 individuals. Their prison capacity is currently at 101.3% – 19.5% of them are international prisoners, and 6.1% are women. India, the second most crowded country in the world, holds 332,112 prisoners, which means 30 inmates of 100,000 individuals, but their prison capacity has reached up to an alarming 139%, 70.1% of the prisoners were convicted with an international law. India has only 3.7 % female prisoners. Click here to find out more.

Electronic contact lenses soon on the market

According to Shimon Haber, the fans of Star Trek will surely remember Geordi La Forge that could see with the help of highly sophisticated lenses, which had different sensors and emitters. Although this technology is still unattainable, some scientists from South Korea found that their graphene lenses will create some new technologies that we could only dream of.

At a recent press conference, a team of scientists from the Institute of Technology and Science from Ulasan – UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science & Technology) demonstrated the latest generation of electronic contact lenses with implanted a flexible screen. The combination of graphene and silver nanowires creates thin elastic electrodes, therefore, this invention opens a new chapter in the electronics industry, and the application of such technology is virtually limitless. So far, the most transparent electrodes were used in touch screen, flat TVs, solar panels and lamps, but their main ingredient, indium oxide (ITO) is extremely fragile and breakable. Thanks to the combination of graphene, silver wire and ITO, the Koreans have created flexible and lighter electronic contact lens with a display of a single pixel.

Koreans tried these lenses on rabbits, but still, they had some doubts about the sensitivity of the human eye. As the testing proceeded without any problem, the Professor Jang-Ung Park’s team will patent this object that would allow people to have some incredible virtual capabilities, including browsing the web, seeing the environment in a way invisible to the naked eye. More precisely, this team will bring on the market what should have brought Google Glass. This invention will enable a number of medical applications, and the hybrid material of elastic electrodes could create a new generation of technological devices that have been solid and fixed so far. Olive oil helps prevent embolic strokes

For thousands of years, olive oil has been a really important ingredient in people’s life, says Shimon Haber. Olive oil is also well-known as a great cure for many diseases. In addition, the consuming of olive oil can also help in the prevention of embolic stroke for the elderly people.

Recently, one research was conducted in France, at the University of Bordeaux and the National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM) in Bordeaux. The researchers were really satisfied with the outcome. Therefore, Dr. Cecilia Samieri from the University of Bordeaux proposed a new reunion in order to give some recommendations in the prevention of embolic stroke for the people older than 65 years. Elderly people experience very often an embolic stroke, so they believe that olive oil could be a cheap and easy way that could prevent it. Even though, this was not clinically tested, the science has confirmed what people already knew for years. Nevertheless, the scientists are not sure which component of olive oil is responsible for these protective effects, but the extra-virgin olive oil contains a higher concentration of phytonutrients, especially polyphenols (antioxidants). These components reduce the risk of heart attack, and lower the high blood pressure.

If you want to get any benefits, the quality is very important when you are buying olive oil. Some recent studies have proved that the “extra virgin olive oil” is healthier than the oils that are labeled as “virgin olive oil” or “olive oil.” The extra virgin olive oil contains higher levels of anti-inflammatory components, so they offer extra protection against undesirable inflammation. Other studies have shown that olive oil excludes the genes that could lead to heart disease and inflammation.

Another study conducted in Spain also supports this label “Mediterranean” diet based on olive oil. A diet that abounds in nuts and extra virgin olive oil, vegetables, fish and wine had reduced the number of heart attacks for 30%. These results will likely change doctors’ opinion regarding the therapy they prescribe to patients. Click here to find out more about olive oil.
